Most people ask “What do I need to do to have a private painting class?”  Since my minimum is 8 participants, the first thing to do is make sure you have that number of adults, or kids over 8 that will come to your private party in your own location. You need to prove provide tables & chairs, table covers if you need them & access to water & electrical outlets. 40 painters is my maximum.

IMPORTANT! Please let your guests know that acrylic stains clothing and to dress for the mess! I bring aprons but they don’t cover everything. Acrylic permanently stains fabrics, including carpet, but comes off of tables, chairs and hard surfaces. I don’t recommend painting on carpets & assume no liability for damages!

When planning for how many people can sit at a table, keep in mind that no ones back can be to me. Also people need more space to paint than they do to eat; approx 2×2 feet of space each. In other words you can fit less people at a table for a painting class than you can for a meal.

A $100 deposit is required to book your class date, which will be applied toward your class cost. Most classes in the gallery are $35 per person. I require 2 weeks notice if you cancel a private class and want to be refunded. It is the host’s responsibility to collect all participants payments, subtracting the $100 prepaid deposit and pay me the balance in cash, Apple Pay, Venmo or Cash App the day of the class.

I typically arrive 30 minutes prior to class. When I arrive all the tables, table coverings, & chairs need to be set up and cleared of food so we are ready to paint.  I bring paper towels, water cups, aprons and of course the canvases, easels, paint and brushes. Feel free to offer whatever refreshments you like at your private party! But please be done with all full meals by my arrival for setup or have large meals after. Snack all you want, I just can’t set up to paint at tables which have people eating at them.

I have to mention that its really important that we start the class on time & it is your job to get your guests there so we can all start together.  I will impose a $25 fee for every half hour I am there beyond 2.5 hours including setup.

I don’t charge to travel within the Portland area.  I charge $1 per mile round trip to travel outside of a 15 mile radius of my home studio in Milwaukie.
